fedi, i need help.
i'm trying to move a gc with some of my friends off discord, but idk what to move to. not all of them have phone numbers, and most of them are very non-technical.
advice is greatly appreciated.
@rosie i don't like how discord handles group chats and i don't think revolt does them any better. i'd much prefer something similar to signal (which is not an option since some of my friends don't have phone numbers)
@fish revolt maybe? It's not perfect, but it kinda works (tm)
@fish I don’t think element needs phone numbers
@numelCase considering most of them are non-technical, i think matrix would probably send them into a coma
i don't actually like sex i like kissing and cuddling
too many nonsynths on synth.download i'm paying to improve the tech to force all of my users to have their consciousness transferred into synth bodies
i wonder if it would work if i pulled up an xp vm and threw in some old crusty xmpp client and tried to sign in

we live in a modern society . make ur 88x31s as vectors
@sneexy@booping.synth.download but the pixel art
@pup@yeen.town each individual rectangle for each pixel
@sneexy@booping.synth.download at that point i could just embed the image as PNG data with optimizeSpeed
@pup@yeen.town yeah that's the better option but like . no fun .
@rosie@0x4d4f5448.systems what in the hell is mothra
@rosie@0x4d4f5448.systems this is definitely something only like 5 people are actively using currently and anyone using this would kill me for making a site that doesn't only use <h1> and <p> and has more than 5 lines of css
@rosie@0x4d4f5448.systems I can't lie if your web browser doesn't support SVGs in 2025 I think every developer has a free pass to completely ignore it
@rosie@0x4d4f5448.systems "it's at least 15 people" does not make it any better 💔
@sneexy no
@sterophonick@wetdry.world ermmm . into the grinder
"stop using discord! start a forum!" Maybe they don't want to deal with purchasing and maintaining a domain, forum software, user data and passwords, managing security for something other than the primary project, and burn possibly limited funds or pay out of pocket when discord is right there? for free? "Use one of the discord alternatives?"
@max@java.duke.social simply shoot your tech support questions into the sun and pray a solar flare causes a momentary power outage to reboot your shit and fix the issue
If I've never used anything other than a mouse before, should I bother with a vertical mouse, or should I go straight to trying out a trackball?
@katja@yiff.life i think it really heavily depends , if you haven't tried either then i'd say try whichever your gut says it wants to try more than the other
bisexual privilege is being able to walk quickly
@BlankEclair@catgirl.center so true (what the fuck does this mean)
people who hate being on public transit confuse me. are you just that much of a weirdo that you can't stand being in a place where there are strangers? riding a bus is way calmer than driving because ur not actively fighting for your fucking life
@eri@mk.moth.zone they only have experience with horrible public transit there's lots of ppl over here that are like that, they've only ever known the horrid open air cramped slow buses, so much so that when the new dedicated bus lane and fast buses came out they rallied against it and are still pushing to abolish the bus lane
@gamer@fedi.bungle.online i think they simply have some sort of brain problem related to huffing leaded gasoline fumes or something because there is no way someone would reasonably hate public transit even when it's cheaper, faster, and more comfortable than being in a tiny death box that we call a car
@eri@mk.moth.zone i mean when the public transit is horrible, like actively really fucking bad i get it public transit over here is the literal worst and that's the whole reason i'm getting my license and buying a motorcycle
@gamer@fedi.bungle.online i am specifically talking about people who refuse to use public transit that isn't terrible on purpose
@eri@mk.moth.zone oh i see
@eri@mk.moth.zone i can think of a few good reasons like maybe some trauma or having a treasure of a car/bike but other than that it might just be worms
i love my obscene amount of ddr3 memory
@inderix@booping.synth.download "obscene" "32GB" pick one
@inderix@booping.synth.download or is it specifically because it's DDR3 and not a later version
@rexo@is.horse I'd call 32GBs of a ram module standard that became public in 2007 pretty obscene
@rexo@is.horse mfs in 2007 surely were not really rocking this much ram thats for sure
@rexo@is.horse i'd also call 32GBs of RAM in general obscene since it's literally double what the majority have in the Steam hardware survey
i stand with the LGDT (load global descriptor table) community
@weirdtreething@donotsta.re i hate osdev why am i doing this to myself
@weirdtreething@donotsta.re fair but i'm dying here tryna get interrupts working
From experience in communities you can probably guess:
If someone is a right-wing shit-stick elsewhere, they'll use that bias in every decision they make & every opinion they form in every part of their life, including in your community and especially if they're given any sort of power.
It'll start out small, subconsciously, influencing how they vote on moderation decisions and how they give their 'impartial opinions' on how to handle things.
It'll then grow into direct actions and words, by which time they've already established themselves as someone who is "normally pretty impartial" and who "leaves politics at the door".
The escalating incidents will be passed off as "one-off things which I'm sure has been a valuable learning experience for everyone, regardless of their beliefs".
No.
Firmly 'kick them to the curb' as soon as you find out. Discount everything they've said and any decisions they were involved in. The temporary loss in progress and community stability is not worth putting up with the slow-acting poison people like that secrete.
Being apolitical is bullshit, and who the fuck actually wants to be neutral when it comes to human rights?
Incidents like this always bring me full-circle back to why I advocate for more people to edit Wikipedia, irrespective of how captured a project may be by those who "want to keep politics out of it" (or are outwardly a little bit fashy)
Obviously don't if it'll fuck up your mental health, but otherwise turning up, making edits, and slowly bringing the needle back towards decency is something we should all be doing..
wishing the best for those in portugal, spain, andorra, and southern france
@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt why is cis in the alt text written as c!s ?
@sleepybisexual@fearness.org @Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt I wonder how a screen reader processes that censoring of cis
Type or paste what's on your mind
@esm hugs.
Thats all.
@esm or paste what's on your mind
@ezio@akko.wtf i'm tired what are you even trying to say
@ezio@akko.wtf they should do that it would be funny and bad
@yassie_j@labyrinth.zone the rest of the lyrics of that song tho...
@mir yah, I think I will ignore most of the lyrics
@rosie@0x4d4f5448.systems absolute territory at least,, has meaning? someone i care about introduced it to me and i used it as exposure therapy to get over my disgust at sexual music. but touch fluffy tail has at least one line that's completely unconscionable
I keep seeing people upset about losing their caches and am starting to feel like this is an unpopular opinion?
@linus@donotsta.re I was trying to clean up my Windows install and I noticed a bunch of large stuff in the "Package Cache"... but when I looked it up to check if it was safe to remove, the consensus was "no"??? either the results were all wrong (not impossible but annoying if true) or Microsoft named something that shouldn't be cleared a "cache" 💀
this applies to any software, but for instance I rm -fr ~/.cache
on a regular basis just because I can (and because caches work best on recent data, no point in storing things that never generate a cache hit).
